When you sell products online, your customers can’t pick them up, feel the texture or see them in person. Your photography has to do that job for you. That’s why I loved working with Keep Things Personal again on their latest product photography campaign, this time showcasing their beautiful collection of personalised olive boards.
Keep Things Personal is a product based business specialising in custom gifts and engraved keepsakes. We’ve worked together on a number of campaigns over the years, creating imagery that not only showcases their products but also helps potential customers imagine how they might use them.
More than just a product shoot

For this campaign, the aim was to create a collection of images that would give their customers a real feel for the olive boards. Alongside clean product imagery, I photographed the boards styled and in use, helping customers visualise them as part of their own kitchen. This is particularly important for online businesses. A single product photograph can show a customers what they are buying but lifestyle photography can help them imagine why they want it.
Whether the board is being used for serving food, displayed as part of a beautiful tablescape or given as a thoughtful personalised gift, showing the product in context adds another layer to the buying experience.
Showing the details

With personalised products, the little details matter. The engraving is a key part of what makes these olive boards special, so I also captured a series of close-up and macro images to show the quality and detail of the personalisation.
These images allow customers to see the engraving up close rather than simply relying on a product description to tell them what it looks like. For a product that can be personalised, that reassurance is particularly valuable.
Creating a kitchen setting in my studio

I have a collection of vinyl photography backgrounds that allow me to create different environments and settings right here in my studio. For this shoot, they helped me create the look and feel of a beautiful kitchen environment without the logistics or expense of sourcing a location.
Combined with carefully chosen props, styling and lighting, they helped create images that feel natural and lived-in while keeping the focus firmly on the product.
If you’re an online product based business and your photography isn’t quite showing your products at their best, it might be time to give your visual content a refresh.
